FANTOZZI!!! Una mostra pazzesca
Curated by Luca Bochicchio and Guido Andrea Pautasso

EARTH Foundation presents, in the exhibition spaces of Grand Tour Italia in Bologna, a new show dedicated to the famous Italian literary and film character, the accountant Ugo Fantozzi, titled: “FANTOZZI!!! An Absurd Exhibition”. Curated by Luca Bochicchio, Professor of Contemporary Art History at the University of Verona, and Guido Andrea Pautasso, scholar of 20th-century artistic and cultural avant-gardes, the exhibition is open to the public free of charge from Thursday, October 16, 2025, to Sunday, March 29, 2026.

This exhibition project, the first and only of its kind, retraces the journey of accountant Ugo Fantozzi, considered the last "mask" of Italian comedy after the brilliant Totò. The social-pop anti-hero Fantozzi owes his existence to Paolo Villaggio and first appeared in the book *Fantozzi* published in 1971, later brought to life in the 1975 film and featured in 11 historic films. **“FANTOZZI!!! An Absurd Exhibition”** reconstructs Fantozzi’s origins through original documents and images, presenting books, over a hundred vintage posters and movie billboards, lobby cards, magazines, and various original memorabilia—from brochures to photographs, comics, records, and audio cassettes—all from the personal collection of Guido Andrea Pautasso. The exhibition also includes a screening of the film *“Battleship Potemkin”* (1925) by Russian director Sergei M. Eisenstein, the source of one of the most famous and quoted lines by Fantozzi. During the exhibition period, a series of public events is scheduled to delve deeper into the Fantozzi phenomenon, including evening talks with cultural personalities, book presentations dedicated to the character, and educational activities for schools of all levels.
The first event will take place on the opening night, Thursday, October 16 at 7:00 PM, with a public talk with curators Luca Bochicchio and Guido Andrea Pautasso. The exhibition is accompanied by the publication of the book *“FANTOZZI!!! An Italian Icon”*, published by Edizioni E.ART.H., featuring thematic essays by the curators and contributions from Alessio Lasta, Marco Senaldi, Irene Stucchi, and Sara Tongiani.
